If you've been following my blog, you'd know that I've been having good skin complexion in the past 2 months, all thanks to Porcelain Face Spa!
However, your beautician cannot do much if you do not adhere to a proper day-to-day skincare regime. Do not attempt to resuscitate your skin with sheet masks all the time - I tell you, it may save you once or twice, but it will fail you one fine day (and for the rest of your life!).
Now, let me introduce to you the products that I've been using throughout my Porcelain Face Spa journey:
From left to right:
Soothe - Hydro Cleanser / 200ml, S$69
Pure - Botanical Treatment Tonic / 200ml S$75
Balance - Sebum Control Essence / 8ml each S$38
Flawless - Skin perfecting moisturiser / 50ml S$150
(I have combination skin, by the way. Worst of all types in my opinion, too many issues to take note of, urgh.)
Step 1: Hydro Cleanser of the Soothe range
This paraben- and sulfate-free cleanser is recommended for all skin types, especially combination, dehydrated, aging and sensitive skin, and contains 6 natural ingredients to cleanse, hydrate, protect and calm even the most sensitive skin.
The active ingredients in the cleanser include:
- Aloe Vera Gel
- Decyl Polyglucose
- Coltsfoot Extract
- Hops Extract
- Rosemary Extract
- Sage Leaves Extract
- Sodium Hyaluronate
- Carrot Extract
How to use: Lather gently with water and rub onto skin in circular motion. Rinse off with tap water.
Step 2: Botanical Treatment Tonic of the Pure range
This toner helps to tighten pores, improve skin clarity, improve product absorption and contains BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) to gently exfoliate skin. Its active ingredients are:
- Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Distillate
- Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Distillate
- Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E)
How to use: Squirt 2- 3 pumps onto a facial cotton pad and wipe gently onto skin .
Step 3: Sebum Control Essence (my ultimate favourite!)
This, in my honest, unbiased opinion, is a must-have for all people with combination skin.
I ran out of it and since it was 3 weeks from my next facial, I thought it would be fine without it till then. I was wrong.
With the use of the sebum control essence, my facial sebum excretion regulation improved and I could work for 15 hours straight and looked like I'd just started work thereafter - I did not need any touch-up.
For the past 3 weeks without it, my face became uncontrollably oily after 5-6 hours and felt dry.
The sebum control essence is a highly concentrated treatment essence specially formulated to regulate oil excretion, increase cell’s moisture retention & balance your skin’s pH level. It has effective anti-inflammation, rejuvenation and repairing properties to help reduce redness & itching for pimple/acne skin.
The active ingredients of the essence are:
- Sodium Hyaluronate (50%)
- Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil
You need to tear off the seal surrounding the cap, before removing the cap
... and replace the cap with an airtight nozzle. This bottle of essence can only be stored for no more than 4 weeks after opening.
How to use: Gently squeeze the neck of the nozzle for a few drops of the essence onto your clean, dry palm. Then proceed to spread it all over your face.
The amount I use each time, twice a day
(Optional) Step 4: Aloe Recovery Gel
My beautician, Cherlyn advised me to apply this generously onto areas that were reddened from the facial, and whenever there are pimples or acnes. This gel helps to heal wounds and repair problematic skin. It is basically stabilised aloe vera gel. It can also improve skin’s moisture balance & promotes skin’s natural resilience.
Step 5: Flawless Skin Perfecting Moisturiser (SPF 20 with PA protection) - for day use only
This is a tinted moisturiser with healing properties, also known as a bb cream with SPF and PA protection.
I was also advised to use only this as my make-up base, and to stay clear from all other brands of foundation.
The amount I use each time in the day
How to use: Dab the cream onto key zones of your face and spread it across your face evenly.
To finish the process, Cherlyn recommended the use of the "Snake brand" powder as loose powder! I was quite stunned to hear that at first. The iconic snake brand powder comes in a metal tin and is exceptionally popular among NS men because it's cheap (less than $5!) and has cooling properties - best alternate solution if you cannot bathe. Cherlyn reassured that this powder will not clog up your pores.
Just want to highlight some packaging changes in recent months. The tin on the left is the old design, while the one on the right is the new design that you will find in convenience / provision shops these days. It also comes with different fragrances. I'm using the original / classic.
How to use: Shake a bit of powder onto your clean, dry palm. Use a powder puff to apply it evenly on your face.
And as you can tell, my skin is much lighter and more yellow-ish than the only shade that the tinted moisturiser comes in. Initially I wasn't used to it at all, because my face looks visibly duller after applying it (since it was a few shades darker than my natural shade). The snake brand powder does some corrective shading, so all's well for me.
